Thompson Fears Terror Attack on Food Published Saturday, December 4, 2004 WASHINGTON (AP) - When Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson resigned yesterday, he issued a warning of a possible terror attack on the nation’s food supply. "For the life of me, I cannot understand why the terrorists have not attacked our food supply, because it is so easy to do," Thompson said. "We are importing a lot of food from the Middle East, and it would be easy to tamper with that." Hurricane

We look at nature, and we see how the animals of the forest store food as a protective measure, and we wonder how our modern society has gotten so far away from that. The average American family has only a few days' worth of food in the refrigerator, and less than a week's worth in the cupboards. A squirrel can survive an entire winter by eating the nuts he was smart enough to store when the nuts were available. How long could your family survive in the event of a biological disaster that harmed our food supply? Fortunately there are several top-quality companies in the US that sell MREs (Meals Ready to Eat), freeze-dried foods, emergency water supplies, super vitamins, and other products that will allow any family to survive the worst. These emergency food supplies will last for up to ten years in a cool, dry place such as the top of a closet. We hope we never have to use this food. We hope Sec. Thompson was wrong. But, like the squirrel, we want to be prepared. In addition to freeze-dried foods, it is important to have adequate storage supplies of ample quantities of the items on the following checklist:
